Thornton Manor Care Centre is situated in the rural village of Thornton le Moors on the outskirts of Chester.
The home started out life as a manor farmhouse before becoming a hotel. It was bought by Barry Potton in the 90s and became Thornton Manor nursing home.
The home has changed many times over the years to meet the changing needs of its residents and the local community. Recently undergoing its biggest transformation yet and becoming Thornton Manor Care Centre.
We like to do things a little differently and are extremely passionate about our non-medical approach to managing challenging behavioural dementia.
This means we will never use sedative or relaxing medications to prevent residents from displaying challenging behaviour. We instead employ a range of therapies to address a wide range of needs. This gave way to Thornton Manor Health & Wellbeing.
Thornton Manor is widely believed to be the first care centre with its own full-scale dementia friendly petting farm.
This allows us to use a range of pet therapy and occupation therapy to address the needs of our service users.
Due to our lovely location we are also privileged enough to have extensive seasoned gardens including a raised vegetable garden that our residents look after, a crazy golf course and giant chess set. We also have a beautiful memorial garden and are currently developing our sensory walk.
